In a groundbreaking move to enhance the travel experience, Samsung Electronics has partnered with Turkish Airlines to introduce a new service that improves baggage tracking and recovery. Launched on December 1, 2025, the collaboration brings the innovative SmartTagged Baggage Service to life, using Samsung’s SmartThings Find platform to quickly track lost or delayed baggage.
SmartThings Find: Revolutionizing Baggage Tracking
SmartThings Find is a location-tracking service powered by Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. It uses a global network of more than 700 million Galaxy devices to help users track their Samsung Galaxy devices—smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and earbuds. Additionally, Galaxy SmartTags can be attached to luggage or other items, allowing travelers to locate them in real-time from anywhere in the world.
The integration of SmartThings Find into Turkish Airlines’ baggage system marks a major improvement in how airlines recover lost luggage. When passengers report misplaced baggage, they can now include location data linked to their Galaxy SmartTag. This makes it easier for Turkish Airlines staff to locate and return the baggage quickly. To further enhance the process, passengers can upload a photo of their actual luggage in the SmartThings Find app, ensuring more accurate identification if baggage is misplaced.
The Benefits for Passengers and Airlines
For passengers, this means a significant reduction in the frustration of lost luggage. The ability to track bags with the help of SmartThings Find ensures that travelers can feel more secure knowing their belongings are easier to locate. Whether the bag is delayed or misplaced, passengers can stay informed about its whereabouts at all times.
For Turkish Airlines, this partnership offers an efficient way to streamline baggage recovery processes, making their operations smoother and faster. The airline can also explore new opportunities to incorporate location-based tracking into additional services. Beyond luggage, this technology can be leveraged to enhance various aspects of the customer experience, such as tracking personal items or offering location-based services at airports.
Expansion Plans: Beyond Baggage
While the SmartTagged Baggage Service is the first step, Samsung and Turkish Airlines plan to expand this collaboration to cover additional aspects of travel. SmartThings Find could potentially be used for a variety of airport services, improving overall convenience for passengers. Turkish Airlines, as the flag carrier of Türkiye, aims to build on this technology to continue innovating customer experiences with AI-powered devices and software solutions.
In the future, the service could provide enhanced convenience for travelers, such as location-based alerts for gate changes, personalized services during flight delays, and real-time updates on luggage and personal items, all through the SmartThings app.
A Step Toward Digitalization in the Aviation Industry
With this partnership, Turkish Airlines continues its push towards digitalization, reinforcing its commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into its operations. The airline has consistently been at the forefront of customer service innovation, and this collaboration with Samsung marks another milestone in their journey to redefine the travel experience.
“Samsung is expanding the SmartThings Find experience through partnerships across industries to help customers stay connected and at ease wherever they are,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings at Samsung Electronics. “We are delighted to work with Turkish Airlines to deliver a more convenient and streamlined travel experience.”
On the other hand, Kerem Kızıltunç, Chief Information Technologies Officer at Turkish Airlines, shared, “Turkish Airlines continues to lead the industry on its road to digitalization. We are delighted to partner with Samsung to leverage their cutting-edge technology for the benefit of our passengers.” He added, “We will continue to strengthen our industry leadership with technological collaborations that prioritize guest satisfaction and set new standards for the aviation industry.”
