Samsung Display has unveiled its first crease-less foldable OLED panel at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. This breakthrough could redefine foldable smartphone design. Notably, the panel will likely appear in the Galaxy Z Fold 8, launching in late 2026. Even more significantly, Apple may use it in its first foldable iPhone.
During a hands-on preview, the new panel showed no visible crease next to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s display. Last year’s Fold 7 reduced crease visibility a lot—but you could still spot it at certain angles. Now, Samsung’s 2026 panel looks truly seamless. It delivers what the company calls “seamless text across the fold.”
To highlight the improvement, Samsung Display set up a “Crease Test” station at its CES booth. Visitors could compare the old and new panels side by side. The result was clear: text and images flowed smoothly over the fold on the new version. This enhances both visual quality and readability.
So, how did Samsung do it?
Reports say the panel uses a laser-drilled metal display plate. This component redistributes stress when you fold the screen. As a result, the hinge area doesn’t deform—eliminating the crease entirely. South Korean firm Fine M-Tec supplies this metal plate. Apple reportedly uses the same tech in its foldable iPhone development.
If Samsung puts this panel in the Galaxy Z Fold 8, it could solve a major foldable pain point. Users have long complained about the visible crease. Now, they may also get better screen durability—another common concern.
For Samsung, this move strengthens its lead in foldable displays. For Apple, it shows serious progress toward a credible foldable launch. And for consumers, it means a smoother, more reliable, and visually flawless experience.
As foldables evolve, the Samsung crease-less foldable OLED panel may mark the moment the category shifts from novelty to necessity.
