In a UK-first move, Samsung News launches in UK to revolutionise how Galaxy users consume digital news. Announced on April 16, 2025, the service delivers free, paywall-free news directly to your device, offering real-time updates from leading national and local publishers.

Free, Diverse, and Tailored News Content

Samsung News brings together a broad spectrum of content from trusted outlets like Sky News, The Independent, Daily Mail, Reuters, Metro, and Business Insider, plus regional titles across 12 UK areas. Unlike other platforms, the app is free of charge and does not require subscriptions to access premium journalism.

“There’s never been a greater need for accurate, verified, and balanced news,” says Andrew Bailey, Editor-in-Chief of Samsung News.

Key Features of Samsung News

  • Morning & Evening Briefings: Curated daily digests to keep users informed
  • Top Stories: Highlighting trending articles and urgent headlines
  • Subject Spotlights: In-depth analysis and diverse viewpoints
  • Regional Customisation: Choose up to 3 UK regions for local news
  • Follow Topics & Publishers: Build a personalised news experience

The service is editorially curated, with a dedicated team ensuring political neutrality and upholding international editorial standards.

Seamless Galaxy Integration

Samsung News is optimised for the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, providing a smooth, intuitive interface that integrates with users’ daily routines. From morning headlines over coffee to late-night briefings, the app syncs effortlessly across Galaxy devices.

“We’re excited to bring trusted news from Sky and Sky Sports to millions more Galaxy users,” adds David Rhodes, Executive Chairman of Sky News Group.

Transition from Samsung Free

The app will roll out as an update to Samsung Free, starting March 31, 2025. Existing users will notice their Samsung Free icon switch to Samsung News automatically. New users can download the app via the Samsung Galaxy Store.
