Say Goodbye to Background Noise: Samsung’s AI-Powered Audio Eraser Transforms Mobile Video Sound

Ever recorded a captivating street performance only to find your video drowned in car horns? Or filmed a vlog in a café where conversations are lost under the hum of espresso machines? Samsung’s latest innovation, Audio Eraser, available in the new Galaxy S25 series, is here to change that.

Developed by Samsung Research and the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, Audio Eraser uses cutting-edge AI to isolate and enhance the sounds you want — while removing the noise you don’t.

“We built Audio Eraser to solve real-world problems, making every video more immersive,” said members of the AI Solution Team at Samsung Research.

Smart Audio Separation for Real-World Scenarios

Audio Eraser uses AI to detect six different types of sound — including voices, music, crowd noise, wind, and nature. Whether the video is yours or one that’s been shared with you, this feature scans and separates audio sources, giving users full control over what they hear.

Inspired by the success of Object Eraser (introduced in the Galaxy S21), Audio Eraser takes multimedia editing to the next level — this time through sound.

Training AI to Understand Sound

Behind the scenes, Samsung researchers captured thousands of real-life audio scenarios — even going out after work to record wind during storms. The team reviewed over 1,000 samples per week to fine-tune AI models for detecting and isolating different sound types.

“Wind was especially tough to master,” noted Hejung Yang. “But it was essential for realistic audio editing.”

By continuously analyzing various audio environments, Samsung ensured that Audio Eraser would deliver high-quality, consistent results.

On-Device Performance That Puts Privacy First

Audio Eraser runs directly on the Galaxy S25, meaning it doesn’t need to send data to the cloud. This improves editing speed, enhances user privacy, and reduces power consumption — thanks to Samsung’s decades of expertise in on-device AI.

“Our AI algorithms are optimized to run in real time, right from the device,” said Hosang Sung, part of the development team.

Cross-Functional Innovation with Impact

Bringing Audio Eraser to life took more than just good AI. The Samsung Research and MX teams collaborated from start to finish — ensuring the feature worked even on long videos and maintained smooth playback during edits.

This partnership also helped fine-tune Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) for the Galaxy Buds3 series. Designed to adjust to each user’s fit and environment, the Buds3 adapt noise control on the fly for optimal performance.

“We created flexible algorithms to support different hardware,” said Kyoungbo Min. “Simulation after simulation helped us hit the mark.”

What’s Next? A Personalized Sound Future

Audio Eraser is just the beginning. Samsung is building on its sound source separation technology to bring more intuitive, customizable audio experiences to mobile users. The goal? A personalized, noise-free future where your phone understands your surroundings and adapts your audio to match.

As Galaxy AI evolves, users can expect even smarter tools that bring clarity and control to every conversation, call, and recording.
