Samsung One UI 8.5: New Features and Q1 2026 Rollout Confirmed

Samsung’s next significant software upgrade, Samsung One UI 8.5, is rapidly progressing. The company now expands its testing program to include multiple high-end devices. This incremental update relies on the robust Android 16 operating system. Ultimately, it promises a comprehensive suite of new features focused on customization, cross-device connectivity, and advanced security.

The highly anticipated rollout will begin in the first quarter of 2026. This new software redefines the user experience for millions of Galaxy users globally.

High-End Devices Receiving Samsung One UI 8.5

Samsung began the beta program for One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy S25 series (S25, S25+, S25 Ultra) in early December 2025. Crucially, the company has since extended its internal testing to include previous flagship generations.

Experts spotted development firmware on Samsung’s servers for several key models:

  • Galaxy S23 Ultra: Firmware version $S918BXXU8FYLB$ confirms active internal testing. The “FYLB” identifier marks the One UI 8.5 release cycle.
  • Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6: Similarly, firmware versions ending in $DYLB$ appeared on Samsung’s servers for these foldable devices.

Consequently, older flagship and recent foldable devices will rank among the first to receive the stable release. Samsung ensures wider compatibility and a smoother final deployment process through simultaneous testing across multiple generations.

The Development Timeline for Samsung One UI 8.5

The rollout strategy for Samsung One UI 8.5 follows the company’s typical cycle for mid-cycle updates. Since the update remains based on Android 16, this timing allows Samsung to introduce major interface and feature improvements between full Android OS platform upgrades.

Beta 1 launched in December 2025. Following this, we anticipate the second beta version for the Galaxy S25 later this month, around December 22. After several beta releases—we estimate four to five total—the stable update will arrive. This timeline is strategic. Specifically, the stable release is projected to coincide with the global launch of the new Galaxy S26 series in February or March 2026. This move ensures the latest flagships debut with the most up-to-date software experience pre-loaded.

Key Features Driving Samsung One UI 8.5 Innovation

Indeed, even as an incremental version, Samsung One UI 8.5 packs substantial new capabilities. These features center around three core areas: user customization, ecosystem fluidity, and high-level security.

Enhanced Customization and Design

The UI receives a major functional and visual overhaul. Ultimately, this makes the phone fully customizable and much easier to operate with one hand.

  • Customizable Quick Panel: The Quick Settings panel is now entirely modular. Users can freely rearrange and resize individual toggles and sliders. This change represents the biggest design shift to the panel in years.
  • Improved Design Language: Stock apps receive a cleaner aesthetic. Changes include a more compact Settings page and modern design elements.
  • Lock Screen Clock Widget: New personalization options arrive. Users can adjust font thickness and the system automatically positions the clock. Therefore, the clock will not cover important parts of the wallpaper image.

Connectivity and Sharing Upgrades

Moreover, the Samsung One UI 8.5 update greatly enhances cross-device interaction and sharing.

  • Storage Share: This crucial ecosystem feature allows users to access files from other logged-in Galaxy devices (tablets, PCs, and even Samsung TVs) directly through the My Files app on their phone.
  • Quick Share Suggestions: The sharing experience becomes significantly smarter. The feature now uses facial recognition to identify people in photos. Then, it proactively suggests sharing the image with those specific contacts.
  • Audio Broadcast: This new feature leverages Auracast. Users can now use the Galaxy phone’s built-in microphone to broadcast their voice to nearby LE Audio-supported devices. Consequently, this works perfectly for group tours or shared audio events.
  • Improved DeX Experience: The desktop environment now remembers the size and position of app windows. As a result, users see greater consistency and boosted productivity.

The Strategic Value of the Samsung One UI 8.5 Update

The release of Samsung One UI 8.5 clearly demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to rapid innovation. The company ensures the Galaxy ecosystem remains highly competitive against rivals. Introducing advanced features like Continuous Image Generation (letting users edit AI images without saving every iteration) and robust security protocols addresses modern user needs directly.

Samsung places these significant changes into an $x.5$ update. Thus, the company bridges the functional gap between its major annual $x.0$ releases. Consequently, all eligible high-end users, including those with the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 6, benefit from the latest AI and connectivity features well before the next full operating system change.
