The battle between Vivo X Fold 5 vs Galaxy Z Fold 7 heats up as both flagship foldables arrive in India with global aspirations. While Samsung’s Fold 7 enters its seventh generation, Vivo’s X Fold 5 is only the brand’s second attempt—but it comes packed with aggressive hardware, AI tools, and the largest battery ever seen on a foldable.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7 on July 9, while Vivo followed closely with the X Fold 5 on July 14. Despite both aiming for productivity, portability, and performance, each device takes a different approach to design and pricing.

The Vivo X Fold 5 features a 6.53-inch AMOLED cover display and an 8.03-inch inner AMOLED panel. Both offer 120 Hz refresh rates and hit 4,500 nits of brightness. Armor Glass Gen 2 protects the outer screen. When folded, the device is 9.2 mm thick and weighs 217 grams—still slim for its category.

Powering this beast is a 6,000 mAh battery, currently the largest on any foldable. Vivo includes an 80 W wired charger in the box and supports 40 W wireless charging. Under the hood, it packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 512 GB UFS 4.1 storage. It ships with Funtouch OS 15 based on Android 15.

On the camera front, Vivo offers a triple 50 MP array: a VCS main sensor, a ZEISS telephoto with 3x optical and up to 100x HyperZoom, and an ultra-wide lens. Both the main and cover displays house 20 MP selfie cameras. In India, the Vivo X Fold 5 starts at ₹1,49,999, which converts to approximately $1,799 in the US.

Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 features a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display and an 8-inch inner panel with 2,600 nits of peak brightness and 120 Hz adaptive refresh. The outer screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, while the back sports Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It weighs 215 grams and folds down to 8.99 mm in thickness.

The Fold 7 runs on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. It pairs with up to 16 GB RAM and offers storage options up to 1 TB. Unlike Vivo, Samsung includes only 25 W charging support and omits the charger in-box. Its 4,400 mAh battery also supports wireless charging. The phone carries an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance.

Camera specs include a 200 MP primary lens, 12 MP ultra-wide macro lens, and a 10 MP telephoto. Both the cover and internal displays include 10 MP selfie cameras. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at ₹1,74,999 in India, or around $2,099 in the US.

In the Vivo X Fold 5 vs Galaxy Z Fold 7 comparison, Vivo wins on battery capacity, charger inclusion, and symmetrical camera sensors. Samsung, on the other hand, boasts a stronger primary camera, IP rating, and higher-end storage options.

While both offer elite-level multitasking and foldable display technology, their price-to-feature ratio appeals to different users. Vivo focuses on aggressive value and charging, while Samsung bets on durability and ecosystem experience.

Ultimately, choosing between the two will depend on priorities. Power users might favor Vivo for raw battery and optics, while brand-loyalists and frequent travelers may lean toward Samsung’s broader support and higher-rated durability.
