Samsung has set a new standard for Android devices by promising 7 years of One UI software updates for its latest flagship phones. This commitment shows that Samsung cares about keeping customers satisfied while ensuring devices stay secure and up to date longer than ever before.

Samsung’s Software Update Policy Evolution

Not long ago, Samsung only offered two major Android updates and three years of security patches for its phones. In 2020, this changed when the Galaxy S20 launched with three Android updates and four years of security support.

In 2022, the policy improved further: select models like the Galaxy S21 began receiving four Android upgrades and five years of security updates.

Then, in January 2024, Samsung announced its most ambitious promise yet with the Galaxy S24 series:
✅ 7 years of Android OS updates
✅ 7 years of One UI feature updates
✅ 7 years of security patches

This new commitment matched Google’s policy for the Pixel 8 and set a new bar for Android support across the industry.

Eligible Samsung Galaxy Devices

These Samsung Galaxy devices will benefit from 7 years of software updates:

S Series

  • Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy S24 FE
  • Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra
  • Galaxy S25 Edge

Z Series (Foldables)

  • Galaxy Z Fold7
  • Galaxy Z Flip7
  • Galaxy Z Fold6
  • Galaxy Z Flip6

Galaxy Tablets

  • Galaxy Tab S10 series
  • Galaxy Tab S10 FE series

Others

  • Galaxy XCover 7 Pro

All these devices launched in 2024 or later will get the full 7-year update promise. This means your device will stay current, secure, and feature-rich for nearly a decade.

Why Extended Software Support Matters

Longer updates are important for several reasons:

Longngevity
Your device stays modern and usable much longer, so you don’t have to upgrade as often.

Security
Regular updates protect you from evolving cybersecurity threats.

Value
A 7-year support policy increases the long-term value of your phone or tablet, making it a smarter investment.

For people who keep their devices for many years rather than upgrading every cycle, this is a huge benefit. Plus, it helps reduce electronic waste, which is better for the environment.

My Take

I think this is a fantastic move by Samsung. It makes Android ownership feel less disposable and brings Android phones closer to iPhones in terms of longevity. Whether you care about sustainability, security, or just saving money, this is good news all around.
