In a major push for smartphone security, Samsung has issued a public alert to over 40 million Galaxy users in the UK, urging them to activate the newly released anti-theft features in One UI 7.0. The move aligns with the UK Home Office’s efforts to reduce mobile phone theft.
As part of a large-scale security awareness campaign, Samsung is highlighting the importance of these tools, which are now available on several Galaxy smartphones and tablets, including the latest Galaxy S25 series and foldables.
What Samsung’s Theft Protection Includes
The One UI 7 update introduces a robust set of safety features integrated with the Samsung Knox Security Platform:
- Identity Check: Biometric verification is required when the phone is in an unfamiliar location to change security settings.
- Offline Lock: The phone locks automatically if disconnected from the internet for too long.
- Remote Lock: Allows users to lock their stolen phone using their number and a verification step, display a custom message, and attempt recovery.
- Security Delay: Adds a one-hour delay to changes in biometric settings, giving victims time to secure their device remotely.
- Theft Detection Lock: Uses AI to recognize snatching motions and immediately lock the screen.
These protections are live on the Galaxy S22–S25 series, Galaxy Z Flip 5/6, Z Fold 5/6, and other models receiving One UI 7.
Widespread Awareness Campaign Across the UK
Samsung is backing the rollout with a massive promotional campaign across:
- London’s Piccadilly Lights
- Tube and train stations
- Social media
- Online video, CTV, and video-on-demand platforms
Samsung has also published detailed instructions for Galaxy users on how to turn on anti-theft settings and use recovery tools via the Samsung Find platform.
“We’re working closely with the UK Home Office and industry partners to strengthen mobile security and protect users,” said Annika Bizon, Samsung UK’s VP of Mobile Experience.
Commitment to User Safety
Samsung’s campaign reflects its broader commitment to smartphone safety and data protection, especially as theft incidents continue to rise. The company aims to empower users with advanced security tools while reinforcing confidence in the Galaxy ecosystem.https://mashable.com/article/samsung-galaxy-theft-warning-activate-feature
