Samsung Electronics America has officially added the Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition to its Tactical Edition lineup. This rugged Android tablet is engineered for military teams, combining powerful hardware, advanced security, and field-ready software.

Tyler Gipson, GM and Head of B2B at Samsung Electronics America, highlighted the device’s purpose. “The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition is our most powerful tactical solution so far,” he said. “Its larger format enhances situational awareness, which is crucial in high-stakes environments.”

Samsung designed this tablet through ongoing collaboration with the U.S. Department of Defense. As a result, it builds on earlier generations used across U.S. military branches. It also suits first responders who need dependable communication tools under pressure.

This device connects easily with tactical radios, drones, GPS systems, laser range finders, and other essential tools. Additionally, it supports 5G, LTE, CBRS, and Wi-Fi 6E for seamless multi-domain communication. Because it is AT&T FirstNet Ready, first responders can access dedicated emergency networks when needed.

To protect connections, the device uses 5G band-locking mode, limiting access to certified networks only. Moreover, Stealth Mode disables LTE, e-911, and all RF signals to support off-grid use. For deeper protection, Covert Lock turns off baseband modems and GPS, eliminating any RF signature.

The tablet includes Night Vision Mode, which works with night vision optics. It also supports critical military applications like ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit) and BATDOK, which aid battlefield coordination and trauma response.

To secure sensitive information, Samsung built in its Knox security platform. This defense-grade solution meets NSA’s Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) standards. Additionally, the tablet uses Knox Dual Data at Rest (DualDAR), encrypting even Top Secret data—even when powered off.

Samsung further strengthened the device with Hypervisor Device Manager (HDM). This system limits LTE and GPS use, preventing unauthorized access and enhancing operational control.

The Galaxy Tab Active5 Tactical Edition also stands up to harsh conditions. It survives drops of up to 1.5 meters and carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Its MIL-STD-810H certification means it performs reliably across temperature extremes, high altitudes, and vibration.

Samsung built the device to last, including a replaceable battery and a touchscreen that works when wet or when users wear gloves. It also includes a rugged S Pen for field annotations.

Inside, the device runs on the Exynos 1380 5nm Octa-core processor, ensuring smooth performance. It features an 8-inch high-resolution display, a 13 MP rear camera, and a 5 MP front camera, which make field documentation simple and effective.
