Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge to Debut With Tougher Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2

Samsung has officially confirmed a major durability upgrade for its upcoming Galaxy S25 Edge, revealing that the sleek new smartphone will feature Corning’s Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 — a stronger, more resilient display cover designed to reduce screen cracks and improve daily durability.

Just ahead of its May 12 Unpacked launch event, Samsung shared that this next-gen ceramic glass incorporates crystals embedded within the glass structure to help disperse impact forces more effectively. This is a crucial upgrade for a device that prioritizes slimness and portability.

A Display Built for Real-World Drops

While Samsung hasn’t released detailed test results, it’s expected that Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 will offer improved protection over its predecessor, which could withstand 10 repeated drops from one meter onto rough surfaces. For clumsy users, this means better survival odds for your phone during those casual drops off the desk or kitchen counter.

However, one tradeoff of tougher, more shatter-resistant screens might be increased susceptibility to scratches, as some users of the Galaxy S25 Ultra have reported. It remains to be seen whether the S25 Edge will include an anti-reflective coating like its Ultra sibling, which greatly reduces glare outdoors.

Camera, Battery, and Build: What Else We Know

Samsung also teased more specs for the Galaxy S25 Edge, confirming it will maintain the brand’s 200MP wide lens, promising premium photo quality even in a thinner body. The exact nature of the secondary camera — whether a telephoto, ultrawide, or macro sensor — remains undisclosed.

Performance-wise, the phone aims to be lightweight yet powerful, though the usual concern with ultra-thin devices is battery capacity. Samsung hasn’t clarified battery specs yet, but users will be hoping for efficient performance without needing a battery case — a rumored requirement for Apple’s iPhone 17 Air.

Virtual Launch Set for May 12

Samsung’s next big reveal takes place during a virtual Unpacked event on May 12 at 8 p.m. ET. While the event will focus on the Galaxy S25 Edge, more details on Samsung’s 2025 roadmap — including possible foldables or an XR headset — might be saved for the company’s major summer launch.

Early adopters can reserve the Galaxy S25 Edge now and receive a $50 Samsung credit, with no obligation to complete the purchase.

As the mobile world continues its shift toward slimmer, more powerful devices, the Galaxy S25 Edge stands out as Samsung’s boldest attempt yet at balancing style, durability, and performance.
