Samsung is reportedly planning to revive one of its standout features from the Samsung Galaxy S9 camera feature revival—the dual aperture camera. Initially introduced with the Galaxy S9 series back in 2018, this feature was discontinued with the Galaxy S20. Now, Samsung is testing its return to better compete with upcoming iPhones that might also include a similar feature.

What is the Dual Aperture Camera?

The dual aperture camera is an adjustable opening in the lens that controls the amount of light hitting the sensor. This feature is particularly useful for adapting to varying lighting conditions:

  • Narrower aperture: Limits light intake, creating a deep depth of field, ideal for bright environments.
  • Wider aperture: Maximizes light intake, perfect for low-light situations and creating a shallow depth of field, ideal for night photography.

Why is Samsung Bringing Back the Dual Aperture Feature?

Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) has suggested that Samsung is reviving this camera technology to stay competitive with future iPhone models, which are rumored to feature similar capabilities. This would provide an additional edge to Samsung’s high-end Galaxy phones, especially for users who prioritize camera performance.

Expected Launch in Future Galaxy Phones

The Samsung Galaxy S9 camera feature revival is expected to make its way into the Galaxy S27 Ultra, based on leaked reports. While the Galaxy S26 series may not feature the dual aperture lens, the S27 Ultra could potentially incorporate this advanced camera tech. This move reflects Samsung’s ongoing efforts to innovate and keep pace with other industry leaders.

Samsung’s potential Galaxy S9 camera feature revival in future phones is an exciting development for smartphone enthusiasts. With the return of the dual aperture camera, Samsung aims to offer a more professional camera experience, especially as it faces competition from Apple’s upcoming iPhones. If these features are integrated into the Galaxy S27 Ultra, it will undoubtedly enhance Samsung’s flagship offering.
