Samsung solid-state battery wearables are officially on the horizon. According to a new report from South Korea, Samsung is preparing to introduce solid-state batteries in its upcoming Galaxy Ring, followed by earbuds and smartwatches over the next two years.

Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries use a solid electrolyte, making them more compact, safer, and capable of being molded into unique shapes — a game-changer for small wearable devices.

🔋 Higher energy density + lower fire risk = smarter, safer wearables.

📅 Rollout Timeline

Here’s how Samsung plans to phase in solid-state batteries across its wearable ecosystem:

  • Q4 2025: First debut in the Galaxy Ring (likely the Ring 2 or 3)
  • Q4 2026: Transition to Galaxy Buds
  • Q4 2027: Integration into Galaxy Watch series

💡 Why Solid-State Batteries?

Samsung is no stranger to battery controversies, and solid-state tech offers:

  • 🔥 Reduced fire risk
  • 🔋 Longer battery life in compact spaces
  • 🎨 Flexible designs for unconventional form factors

This makes them ideal for small, ergonomically challenging products like smart rings, where internal space is at a premium.

💰 What About the Cost?

The Galaxy Ring wasn’t exactly affordable when first launched — and the use of solid-state batteries may push the price tag even higher due to elevated manufacturing costs. However, the improved durability and safety could justify the premium for many users.

📱 Smartphones Still Waiting

Interestingly, Samsung hasn’t confirmed solid-state battery plans for smartphones yet. According to the report, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is still developing that application — likely because of the greater energy demands and scale involved.

📝 Final Thoughts

Samsung’s move toward solid-state battery wearables marks a pivotal shift in portable power. From better safety to design freedom, this tech could reshape what’s possible in compact devices — starting with the Galaxy Ring later this year.

Whether the price increase will be a dealbreaker remains to be seen, but battery innovation is clearly top-of-mind as Samsung aims to lead the next evolution in wearable tech.
