Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition, an upgraded version of the Z Fold6, featuring larger displays, a sleeker profile, and a 200 MP main camera. Priced at KRW 2,789,600 ($2,000/€1,860), this new model comes in slightly more expensive than the standard Z Fold6. However, rumors of a more affordable foldable from Samsung have now been dispelled.
According to a report from Sammobile, sourced from an unnamed Samsung official, the company has no current plans to release a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold device. Despite speculation and earlier reports hinting at a budget-friendly foldable, this idea has seemingly been scrapped. The Z Fold Special Edition is being positioned as an option to expand the product lineup rather than a lower-cost alternative.
Why the Cheaper Fold Was Canceled:
- Earlier reports suggested Samsung was working on a Z Fold6 FE (Fan Edition), but production tests failed to meet expectations. The test models were not substantially thinner or lighter than Chinese competitors and lacked support for the S Pen, a key feature for some users.
- Combined with market uncertainties and production challenges, Samsung decided to abandon plans for a budget foldable.
For now, it appears that Samsung’s premium foldable options will continue to dominate the market without a lower-cost alternative on the horizon. Fans of the foldable series can look forward to more high-end features, but those hoping for a more affordable option may have to wait.
