Samsung has announced that it has started mass production of its fastest SSD for PCs, the PM9E1, based on PCIe 5.0 technology. Samsung claims that this SSD boasts the industry’s highest performance and largest capacity, built using a 5nm controller and 8th-gen V-NAND technology.
Designed to handle data-intensive AI applications, the PM9E1 delivers impressive speeds of 14.5 GB/s for reading and 13 GB/s for writing, making it an optimal choice for on-device AI-powered PCs. Samsung will offer the SSD in several storage configurations, ranging from 512 GB to 4 TB.
The PM9E1 also incorporates advanced security protocols like Secure Channel, Device Authentication, and Firmware Tampering Attestation, safeguarding the device against supply chain attacks during production and distribution.
Initially, Samsung plans to supply this PCIe 5.0-based SSD to global PC manufacturers, with consumer availability expected later under a potentially new name, such as 1090 PRO.
