Huawei surprised many by launching its tri-fold phone before Samsung could respond. However, Samsung is now preparing to debut its own tri-fold device, possibly called the Samsung Galaxy G Fold. Although the company has not officially confirmed the name, it has appeared in multiple rumors.
Naturally, the Samsung Galaxy G Fold will face direct comparisons with the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate. Based on current information, Samsung’s device might fall short in a few key areas, especially the display size. While Huawei’s foldable opens to a massive 10.2-inch screen, Samsung’s device reportedly maxes out at 9.9 inches. Although the difference sounds minor, it plays a big role in the competitive landscape.
Nevertheless, Samsung’s tri-fold will likely outshine Huawei’s in terms of chipset performance and internal components. Due to US sanctions, Huawei cannot access some of the latest technologies. On the other hand, Samsung’s model may lag in charging speed. Reports suggest the Galaxy G Fold will support only 25W fast charging, while Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate already reaches 66W.
These differences matter on paper. However, Samsung doesn’t need to worry too much about Huawei in practice. Huawei’s devices remain largely unavailable outside China, especially in the United States. Therefore, Samsung will face minimal competition in its key markets.
Still, it remains uncertain whether Samsung plans a global launch for the Galaxy G Fold. According to recent leaks, Samsung may produce only 200,000 units. Consequently, the device might be limited to important regions like South Korea and the US.
The Samsung Galaxy G Fold represents a significant step forward for Samsung’s foldable ambitions. Even with a few compromises, it seems positioned to dominate where it matters most.
